Kantara Chapter 1 Begins Streaming on Prime Video

The film is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara and explores the origins of the Panjurli Daiva legend, weaving together tales of faith, nature, and ancient rituals set in the 4th century Kadamba dynasty. It stars Rishab Shetty alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, with music composed by B. Ajaneesh Loknath.

Since its theatrical release, Kantara Chapter 1 has become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 in terms of worldwide collections, earning over ₹816 crore, second only to KGF Chapter 2. Its breathtaking visuals, powerful performances, and cultural depth have won critical acclaim and massive audience admiration.

The decision for the early OTT release was based on a long-standing agreement made three years ago, reflecting industry changes in digital distribution. Amazon Prime Video secured the streaming rights in a deal reportedly worth ₹110-125 crore, beating Netflix’s offer. Despite streaming availability, the movie continues to attract strong box office numbers, with daily ticket sales exceeding 70,000.

Kantara Chapter 1 represents a cultural phenomenon that blends South Indian folklore with pan-Indian appeal, capturing the hearts of millions. It is now easily accessible to streaming audiences, ensuring its legend continues beyond the silver screen.
